Compare and contrast essay topic may seem a difficult task if you don’t know where to start from. First, before you choose topic for your compare and contrast essay you need to make clear what is a comparison or a contrast? Basically, a comparison shows how two or more things are similar, and a contrast shows how these two things are different.
Now, what is a compare and contrast essay, then? Your essay should take into account both the differences and similarities present in an essay topic of your choice. For example, you can choose comparing and contrasting two fairy tale stories (Cinderella and Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale) and make a point-by-point comparison or a subject-by-subject comparison.
In choosing a topic for a compare and contrast essay you should avoid arguing the obvious. When the things in your compare contrast essay topic are similar, you need to find out how they are similar, and if they are different, you need to determine how they are different.
Good compare and contrast essay topic promotes critical thinking. For example, you may choose to compare a book to a movie which was based on that book. Avoid listing the divergences from the plot and the summaries. Try to put in your own analysis in your compare and contrast essay instead.
